There’s a unique electricity that hums through the air as you walk toward Ohio Stadium on game day. The roar of the crowd, the sea of scarlet and gray, and the shared anticipation of a Buckeye victory create a ritual that fans cherish deeply. For many, this experience is a cherished escape from the daily grind—a place where generations of families come together to celebrate tradition.
To protect this cherished experience, Ohio State University enforces a strict stadium bag policy. Its key purpose is to enhance security and speed up entry for all 100,000+ fans. By limiting the size and type of bags allowed, the policy minimizes lengthy searches at the gates, giving you more time to find your seat and soak in the pre-game atmosphere.
The benefits for everyday life are practical and significant. Imagine arriving at the stadium only to be turned away because your backpack is too large. By embracing the clear-bag rule, you eliminate that stress. This policy allows only clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags that do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”, plus small clutch bags (4.5” x 6.5”). This standard is now common at major venues, making it a familiar and easy habit for any event you attend.

To explore this policy on your own, start by checking Ohio State’s official athletics website before any game. A simple tip: invest in a see-through stadium-approved bag—they are affordable and available at most sports retailers. Always pack your items in a single clear bag and keep your phone and wallet ready in a small clutch to avoid fumbling at security.
Additionally, remember that seat cushions, blankets, and binoculars are permitted if carried loosely or in a clear bag. Avoid bringing prohibited items like large umbrellas, thermoses, or any bag with multiple compartments. By following these guidelines, you will contribute to a safer, smoother entry for everyone, preserving the joy and camaraderie that defines Buckeye Nation.
