Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre Bag Policy

You know that feeling. You’ve just scored tickets to see your favorite band at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre. You’re buzzing, planning your outfit, and dreaming of the perfect night out.

Then you grab your go-to bag – that giant, comfy tote you use for everything from groceries to weekend trips. Hold up right there.

Your dream concert could turn into a trip back to your car before you even see the stage. The venue has a bag policy, and trust me, you don’t want to learn it the hard way.

Think of it like a first date

You wouldn’t show up to a first date with a suitcase, right? The same logic applies here. The Amphitheatre wants you to keep it light and simple.

Bags must be small. We’re talking about a standard clutch, no bigger than 4.5” x 6.5”. That’s basically the size of your hand or a small wallet.

If you need to bring more, you can use a clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag. It can be up to 12” x 6” x 12”. Think of it as a see-through backpack for your snacks and phone charger.

Your everyday bag is probably a no-go

Remember that cute crossbody bag you grabbed at Target? Check its dimensions. Most standard purses, diaper bags, and laptop bags are too big.

I learned this lesson myself last summer. I had a little messenger bag for my camera and sunscreen. The security guard smiled, held up his hand, and said, “Sorry, friend. Back to the car.”

It was a hot, long walk to the parking lot. Don’t be like me. Save your steps for the bathroom line inside the venue.

Why should you even care?

Because speed is everything. The policy isn’t just about rules – it’s about getting you inside faster. Nobody wants to stand in a long security line while the opening band is already playing.

Small or clear bags let security check you in seconds. You’re through the gate, grabbing a drink, and finding your spot before the first song ends.

It also makes the whole crowd safer. Less clunky bags mean less chaos in the aisles. More dancing, less tripping.

A few happy exceptions

Don't panic if you have medical needs or a tiny diaper bag for a little one. The venue makes reasonable accommodations, but you’ll likely get an express line check.

Just bring your bag to the “Accessible Gate” and explain. They’re nice folks, I promise.

And yes, camelbaks are usually a no-go unless they are empty. Just bring a collapsible water bottle – there are free filling stations inside.

Your cheat sheet for a smooth night

Before you leave the house, do this: hold your bag next to a standard piece of paper (8.5” x 11”). If your bag is bigger than that, leave it home.

Wear clothes with deep pockets. I stuff my phone, keys, and a credit card in my jacket pocket. That way, I don’t even need a bag at all.

The goal is to enjoy the music, not stress about your stuff. Pack light, arrive early, and get ready for a night of pure, unbothered fun. See you at the show.
