So, I was minding my own business, scrolling through the interwebs, when I stumbled upon something that made me do a double-take. I mean, I've seen some weird stuff online, but this was a new one. I'd found my way to the Clark Kirkland Funeral Home Obituaries.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not one to make light of serious situations. Death is no joke, folks. But when you've got a page full of obituaries that read like they were written by a stand-up comedian on a roll, you've got to laugh, right?
Meet the Late, Great... Characters
Take Mr. Elroy "Buddy" Johnson, for instance. His obituary started with, "Buddy left us on a Tuesday, which was his least favorite day of the week. He always said, 'If I've got to go, I'd rather not do it on a Monday, 'cause that's just depressing.'" I mean, who thinks about their obituary that far in advance?
Must Read
And then there was Ms. Edna "Granny" Smith. Her obituary read, "Granny passed away peacefully in her sleep, with her favorite bonnet on and a smile on her face. The doctors say it was a heart attack, but we think she just got tired of waiting for someone to pass the biscuits." I'm not even kidding. This woman had a sense of humor right up until the end.
Obituaries Gone Wild
Now, I'm not saying these obituaries are inappropriate. They're just... unique. Like Mr. Harold "Harry" McGill's. His obituary started with, "Harry finally kicked the bucket. He was 92, so it's not like he was in a hurry or anything." I mean, come on! That's funny!
And let's not forget Ms. Lucille "Lucy" Ball. Yes, that Lucy. Her obituary read, "Lucy passed away surrounded by her family, which included her husband, Desi, and their children, Little Ricky, and... oh wait, that's not right. My bad. Lucy, the woman, not the character, passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was 97 and had a good run, folks. A very good run." I mean, who else could pull off a Lucy reference in their obituary?

Lessons Learned
So, what can we learn from all this? Well, for one, Clark Kirkland Funeral Home knows how to write an obituary. I mean, these things are hilarious! But more importantly, they remind us that life is short, so we should laugh as much as we can. And if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?
And who knows? Maybe one day, when it's my time to go, I'll have an obituary that makes people laugh. Something like, "He finally bit the big one. And by 'he', I mean me. And by 'big one', I mean... well, you get the picture. He was a writer, so he'd want you to use your imagination."
But until that day comes, I'll just keep scrolling through the interwebs, laughing at the late, great characters who've left us with a smile on their faces and a chuckle in our hearts.
