So, there I was, a wide-eyed high school grad, standing on the sprawling lawn of Virginia Wesleyan University, trying to figure out if the squirrel I was watching was actually juggling acorns or just really good at hiding them. That's when I realized, this place was going to be different.

Fast forward a few years, and I'm still here, now on the other side of the desk, trying to tell you why Virginia Wesleyan University at 5817 Wesleyan Dr, Virginia Beach, VA 23455 is more than just a pretty campus with some talented squirrels.

Why VWU, You Ask?

Well, let's start with the fact that it's nestled right in the heart of Virginia Beach. You know what that means? Beaches, boardwalks, and all the seafood you can handle. But it's not just about the location. VWU is a place where you can actually have a conversation with your professor, where the class sizes are small enough for you to not get lost in the crowd, and where the community is tight-knit enough to feel like a family.

Academics: Not Just Book Smart, But Life Smart

VWU offers a wide range of majors, from the usual suspects like Business and Psychology to the more unique like Marine Science and Environmental Studies. But it's not just about the major. It's about the experiential learning - the internships, the research opportunities, the study abroad programs. It's about preparing you for life, not just a career.

And let's not forget about the Center for the Study of Religious Freedom. It's not just a fancy name for a library. It's a place where students can engage in meaningful dialogue about religion, ethics, and social justice. It's a place where you can think critically, ask tough questions, and grow as a person.

Athletics: More Than Just a Game

Now, I know what you're thinking. "This place sounds great, but what about sports?" Well, let me tell you, VWU's athletics program is no joke. With 23 varsity sports, there's something for everyone. But it's not just about winning (though we do that too). It's about teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. It's about learning to balance academics and athletics, and coming out stronger on the other side.

Campus Life: Where the Magic Happens

Alright, so you've got the academics and the athletics. But what about the fun stuff? VWU's campus life is vibrant and diverse. There are over 100 student clubs and organizations, from the usual suspects like Greek life and student government to the more unique like the Beekeeping Club and the Harry Potter Alliance. And let's not forget about the Martha W. Pennington Regimental Band, the university's own marching band. Yes, you read that right. We have a marching band. And they're awesome.

You can be a leader, a scholar, an athlete, an artist, an activist. You can be anything you want to be.

And who knows, you might even learn a thing or two from those squirrels. But that's a story for another time.
