How To Beat Rennala Queen Of The Full Moon

My first attempt at Rennala ended with me sprinting in circles while a choir of crawling scholars sang me into an early grave. I kept swinging at the queen herself, confused why her golden bubble refused to pop. Then a glowing sweeting bonked me with a book, and I realized this wasn’t a duel.

It was a puzzle wrapped in a nursery rhyme. If you’re stuck on the Queen of the Full Moon, you’re not alone. She’s one of those bosses who punishes assumptions.

Once you understand her two phases, though, she becomes less terrifying and more like a sorcery exam you forgot to study for.

First Phase: Pop the Bubble, Not Your Temper

In phase one, Rennala floats inside a golden shield. Your job isn’t to hit her. It’s to find and kill three glowing scholars called Sweetings.

They’re the ones with a golden aura, often singing like they’re auditioning for a creepy choir. Ignore the regular crawling scholars when you can. They’re annoying, but they don’t break the shield.

Run around the arena, lock onto the shiny ones, and take them out fast. Ranged attacks, throwing knives, or a quick weapon art can help if the crowd gets thick.

When the third Sweeting dies, Rennala drops to the floor. That’s your window. Sprint in and unload your heaviest attacks.

Don’t get greedy, though. She’ll float back up, the shield returns, and you’ll need to repeat the process. Yes, it’s a bit tedious.

No, you can’t skip it by yelling at your screen. Stay mobile, avoid getting swarmed, and treat the Sweetings like the real boss of phase one.

Second Phase: The Actual Sorcery Duel

Once the first phase ends, Rennala gets a cinematic upgrade and a full health bar. Now she’s the real Rennala, and she’s not hiding behind a shield. She’ll cast glintstone spells, summon spirits, and drop a giant moon on your head if you stand still.

Your best friend here is aggression with a side of strafing. Stay close, circle her, and punish after her longer casts. She doesn’t have much poise, so relentless physical hits can stagger her and interrupt some spells.

When she summons wolves, a Bloodhound Knight, a troll, or even a dragon, try not to panic. You don’t have to kill every summon. Often, you can keep pressure on Rennala and let the spirits fade or miss.

If a summon is really harassing you, take it out quickly, then refocus on her. Her moon attack is the scary one. It tracks, hits hard, and lowers your magic resistance.

Dodge sideways or sprint behind her as it comes down. Do not try to tank it just because you have full HP.

Gear That Makes You Less Dead

Bring a fully upgraded weapon, ideally one that deals physical damage. Rennala is a sorcerer, so she resists magic more than you’d like. Bleed, frost, and raw bonk damage all work nicely.

If you’re a mage, Rock Sling is a solid choice because it deals physical damage. Wear armor with magic resistance, and slap on the Spelldrake Talisman if you have it. The Opaline Hardtear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick can also soften her spells.

Every bit of defense helps when the moon is falling. Summon a Spirit Ash if you’re struggling. Mimic Tear is great if your build is strong, but even a humble wolf pack can split her attention.

Just remember: your summon is a distraction, not a babysitter.

Small Habits That Win the Fight

Keep your camera unlocked when you’re moving around her. Locking on is useful for attacks, but it can make dodging her spells awkward. Sprint, roll, and stay close.

Don’t burn all your stamina attacking a downed Rennala in phase one. Save a sliver for a dodge. In phase two, punish her recovery, not her startup.

And if you die, take a breath. Rennala is a test of patience more than reflexes. Learn the Sweetings’ glow, respect the moon, and keep swinging.

Before you know it, the Queen of the Full Moon will be a memory. Then you can go back to the academy and pretend you were never scared of a bunch of singing scholars. Good luck, Tarnished.
