Who Dies In Animal Kingdom Season 6

Animal Kingdom’s sixth season is basically a family reunion where everyone brings a gun and a grudge. The Codys have never been the “let’s talk about our feelings” type. So when the final season rolls around, you know the body count is going to be higher than a tabloid’s holiday wish list.

Spoilers ahead, obviously. If you haven’t finished the season, maybe go watch it first. Then come back so we can grieve, laugh, and wonder why nobody in this family ever just moves to another country.

The Early Exits: Pamela and Pete

First up, Pamela Johnson meets a very permanent end. She was one of Smurf’s old friends and a woman who knew where the bodies—and the money—were buried.

Pamela thought she could play chess with the Codys. Unfortunately, Pope was playing checkers with a sledgehammer. He kills her, and the show reminds us that no one out-Smurfs Smurf’s kids for long.

Her death is a big deal because she wasn’t just some random extra. She was a link to Smurf’s past, and Pope smashes that link like a piñata full of bad decisions.

She also had a safe deposit box that could ruin the family. That’s like bringing a grenade to a knife fight and then forgetting the pin.

Then there’s Pete, a guy who probably just wanted to pour drinks and mind his own business. Pope decides Pete is a loose end, and loose ends in Animal Kingdom get tied up in the worst way.

Pete’s death is quick, brutal, and weirdly easy to miss if you blink. It’s like the show saying, “Hey, remember Pope is not okay? Here’s a reminder.”

Honestly, if you work at a bar owned by a Cody, you should have a go-bag and a therapist on speed dial. Pete had neither.

The Big One: Craig Cody

Craig Cody dies in the series finale, and it hurts. He was the muscle with a soft spot, the guy who loved his baby and his bar and his brothers in his own chaotic way.

He gets shot during the final mess of a heist and bleeds out. It’s not a heroic speech moment. It’s messy, sad, and exactly the kind of ending this show loves.

Craig leaves behind Renn and their son, Nick. So if you needed a reason to feel like you’ve been punched in the gut, there it is.

He was basically a golden retriever who could commit felonies. A terrifying thought, but also kind of accurate.

His death also proves that in this family, being the strongest doesn’t mean you survive. It just means you can carry more stolen cash before you go down.

His death is even sadder because he was just starting to get it together. By “get it together,” I mean he had a baby and a bar, not a moral compass.

The Tragic Volcano: Pope Cody

Pope Cody also dies in the finale. And honestly, was anyone surprised? Pope was a walking grenade with a sad childhood and a loyalty problem.

He gets shot by J, which is the ultimate “the student becomes the master” moment. Except the student is also a snake, and the master is a volcano.

Pope’s death is tragic because he was so broken. It’s also a relief because he was terrifying. You can feel both things at once, like crying while eating a really good sandwich.

He loved Smurf in a way that needed a therapist, a priest, and a hazmat suit. In the end, that love swallowed him whole.

J killing Pope is cold, calculated, and weirdly inevitable. It’s like watching someone finally delete a cursed app from their phone.

Pope’s final scene is him sitting in Smurf’s chair, which is basically the show’s version of a horror movie jump scare. You know something awful is coming, and it still makes you flinch.

Who Survives? And Who Just Goes to Jail?

Deran Cody doesn’t die, but he doesn’t exactly win either. He gets arrested, which for a Cody is basically a slow-motion death with better food.

J survives, and he ends up with the money and the house. He’s the last Cody standing, sitting alone at the table like the final girl in a slasher movie.

It’s a chilling ending. J outplayed everyone, including the people who taught him how to play dirty.

Renn survives, and so does baby Nick. They get the rare Animal Kingdom ending that doesn’t involve handcuffs or a body bag.

Trey also lives, because apparently someone in this universe gets to just go home. Good for him. He earned it.

Even Adrian is off somewhere, probably still recovering from the most stressful boyfriend experience in TV history. At least he’s not dead.

Deran’s arrest is a bummer, but at least he gets to wear a jumpsuit that matches his eyes. Silver linings.

Surprising Facts and Final Thoughts

Here’s a surprising fact: the show didn’t kill off everyone. It killed off the ones who couldn’t adapt to a world without Smurf.

Pope couldn’t adapt because he was too loyal. Craig couldn’t adapt because he was too reckless. Deran couldn’t adapt because he was too proud.

J adapted because he was raised by wolves and then decided to become the wolf. It’s not a happy ending. It’s a survival ending.

Another fun fact: the series finale is titled “Fubar,” which is a military term for “totally messed up beyond all recognition.” That’s also a pretty good description of the Cody family tree.

So who dies in Animal Kingdom season 6? Pamela, Pete, Craig, Pope, and a few unlucky souls who looked at Pope wrong. The final season is a masterclass in family therapy gone wrong.

If you thought your family Thanksgiving was messy, at least no one got shot over a safe deposit box. Probably. Hopefully.

In the end, the show leaves you with one big lesson: never trust a Cody with a secret, a gun, or a group chat. Especially J.
