How To Get To New Mauville Emerald

New Mauville is not a city. It's an underground power plant. And it's hiding on Route 110 in Pokémon Emerald.

You can't just walk in, though. The door is locked. So here's the weird little quest to get inside.

Step One: Beat Wattson

First, you need the Dynamo Badge. That means beating Wattson in Mauville Gym. He's the guy with the electric puns and the giant smile.

Once you win, he'll chat with you after the battle. Talk to him again. He'll mention a problem at New Mauville.

The generator is acting up. He asks you to go turn it off. Then he hands you the New Mauville Key.

Just like that. No paperwork. No safety training.

Where Is The Door?

Leave Mauville City and head south onto Route 110. You'll pass the Cycling Road entrance. Keep going.

Look to the east side of the route. You'll see a small, lonely building. It has a single door.

That's the entrance to New Mauville. It looks totally ordinary. That's part of the charm.

Walk up and interact with the door. If you have the key, it opens. If you don't, it just says it's locked.

So don't forget to visit Wattson first. He's the only one who can help.

Inside The Electric Maze

New Mauville is dark, blue, and buzzing. The floor hums. The air crackles.

It feels like you're inside a giant battery. Your goal is simple: find the generator and press the button. The path is not simple.

There are switches on the floor. Stepping on them opens and closes doors. You'll wander through rooms.

You'll step on a switch. A door opens somewhere else. You'll backtrack.

It's a mildly annoying puzzle. But it's also kind of cozy. You'll get the hang of it.

Watch Out For Fake Items

See an item ball on the ground? It might be a Voltorb in disguise. Surprise!

It jumps out and battles you. So save before you grab anything shiny. You've been warned.

The wild Pokémon here are all electric types. Voltorb, Magnemite, and Magneton. They love to paralyze you.

A Ground-type Pokémon makes this trip a breeze. You can also find a Thunder Stone lying around. That's a great item.

Use it to evolve Pikachu into Raichu. Or Eevee into Jolteon in other games. Here, it's just a nice bonus.

Find The Generator

Keep flipping switches and opening doors. Eventually, you'll reach a big machine. It's the generator.

It's making all the trouble. Press the button. The generator shuts down.

The lights flicker. You've done it. You're an electrician now.

Before you leave, grab any remaining items. There's a Thunderbolt TM? No, wait. In Emerald, you get TM24 Thunderbolt from Wattson after the quest.

Inside, you can find a Thunder Stone and other goodies. So don't rush out too fast.

Claim Your Reward

Exit New Mauville and fly or walk back to Mauville City. Go to the gym. Talk to Wattson again.

He'll thank you for saving the day. Then he gives you TM24 Thunderbolt. That's a fantastic move.

It has 95 power and 100 accuracy. Your electric types will love it. And that's it.

You've completed a weird, optional sidequest. You turned off a generator. You got a great TM.

You maybe got a Thunder Stone. Not bad for a day's work. Now you can brag to your friends.

Why This Quest Is So Fun

New Mauville is a hidden dungeon. It's not required to beat the game. That makes it feel like a secret.

You have to go out of your way to find it. The name is funny. It's called New Mauville.

But it's an old, abandoned power plant. There's nothing new about it. Except maybe the smell of ozone.

Wattson is a delight. He's a gym leader who also runs a power plant. He asks a random kid to fix his generator.

That's peak Pokémon logic. We love it. The maze is simple but satisfying.

You flip switches. You open doors. You feel smart when you finally reach the generator.

Then you press one button and leave. Plus, electric Pokémon are cool. Voltorb is a ball.

Magnemite is a magnet. Magneton is three magnets. They're all floating and buzzing.

It's a fun little ecosystem. The music is a bop. It's all beeps and boops.

It makes you feel like you're in a robot factory. And the best part? You can do it all before the fourth gym.

It's a nice break from the main story. So if you're playing Pokémon Emerald, don't skip New Mauville.

It's a short detour. It's full of quirky details. And it rewards you with one of the best TMs in the game.

Just remember: beat Wattson first. Get the key. Bring a Ground-type.

And save before you touch any item balls. Then go turn off that generator. You've got this.
