How Old Was Tommy Shaw When He Joined Styx

So, you're curious about Tommy Shaw's age when he joined Styx, huh? Let's dive into this like we're sipping on a cold one at a concert tailgate!

Before the Fame

Born on September 11, 1953, in Montgomery, Alabama, Tommy was a baby boomer through and through. He picked up the guitar at 13, and by 16, he was playing in local bands. Now, that's what I call a rock 'n' roll start!

Joining the Styx

Fast forward to 1972, Tommy was just a young 19 when he joined Styx. Yep, you heard it right! He was the baby of the band when he started. Can you imagine being the new kid in a band that already had two albums under their belt?

But hold on to your hats, folks! Tommy wasn't just a fresh face; he was also a songwriting machine. He co-wrote some of Styx's biggest hits, like "Come Sail Away" and "Blue Collar Man," while still in his early 20s. Talk about making a big impact!

Growing with the Band

Tommy stuck with Styx through thick and thin. He was there for the band's peak in the late '70s and early '80s, and he's still going strong today. That's over five decades of rock 'n' roll, folks!

And guess what? Tommy's still got that youthful energy. He's been known to crowd surf at shows and even crowd skate during a performance in Nashville. Now that's what I call aging like fine wine!
