How Old Was Luke Skywalker In The Empire Strikes Back

So, How Old Was Luke Skywalker in 'The Empire Strikes Back'? Let's Dive In!

Alright, fellow Star Wars fans, let's tackle a question that's been buzzing around the galaxy for decades. You know the scene: Luke's just found out he's got a certain someone as a pops, and he's off to train with Yoda. But hold up, how old was our hero at this point?

First off, let's set the scene. 'The Empire Strikes Back' was released in 1980, and Mark Hamill, who played Luke, was 29 at the time. But we're not talking about Mark here, we're talking about Luke, right?

When Was Luke Born?

To figure out Luke's age, we need to know when he was born. According to the 'Star Wars' timeline, Luke was born in 19 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). That's right, our hero was born a good 19 years before the events of 'A New Hope'.

Doing the Math

Now, 'The Empire Strikes Back' takes place around 3 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin). So, if we subtract 19 from 3, we get... drumroll please... -16! But wait, that can't be right. We've got to add those 19 years back on.

So, Luke was born in 19 BBY, and 'The Empire Strikes Back' happens in 3 ABY. That means Luke is 19 + 3 = 22 years old when he's off learning the ways of the Force from Yoda.
