How Old Was Romeo When He Died

So, you know how we were chatting about Romeo and Juliet the other day, and I mentioned something about Romeo's age? Yeah, you remember. You were like, "Wait, how old was that guy supposed to be?" Well, grab your coffee, 'cause we're diving in.

First off, let's set the scene. We're in Verona, Italy, around the year 1595. Shakespeare's writing his play, and he's not exactly handing out birth certificates. So, we're left to make some educated guesses, yeah?

Now, Romeo, he's a young guy. We know that much. He's all "O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?" and stuff. But how young are we talking?

Some folks say he's around 16 or 17. I mean, think about it. He's all hormones and drama, right? He's got that "I'm in love, no I'm not, no I am!" thing going on. Sounds like a teenager to me.

But here's where it gets interesting. Some scholars, those book-smart folks, they say he's actually older. Like, late teens to early 20s. They point to his maturity, his understanding of the world. I mean, he's got a pretty good grasp on the whole "love is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs" thing, right?

Now, you might be thinking, "But what about Juliet? She's, like, 13!" Yeah, yeah, I know. That's a whole other can of worms. But today, we're talking Romeo. So, let's stick to our guy.

So, how old was Romeo when he died? Well, that's the million-dollar question, isn't it? Some say he's still in his teens, others say he's just barely an adult. But one thing's for sure, he didn't live long enough to get a driver's license, that's for sure.

Anyway, that's my two cents. What do you think? Was Romeo a teenager or a young adult? Let me know over our next coffee break, yeah?
